About Me
I am a graduate of East Carolina University, receiving my BFA degree with a concentration in Animation/Interactive Design in December 2017. For as long as I can remember, I have wanted to find a way to use my imagination and my artistic talents to make a living. East Carolina was the perfect fit for me. I enjoy working with programs like Maya, Photoshop, Unity, Adobe Illustrator, After Effects, Premier and ZBrush. I look forward to using my skills in a professional environment. Ultimately, I hope to realize my vision of becoming a 3D modeler and character designer.
Design Philosophy
Creating new life through character design and 3D modeling is my passion. When I begin work on a new character, I start off thinking about what would make an interesting character. Then, I think about one contradiction. For example, what if a coward had to become a hero because he was forced into that situation? I think about proportion. What would make interesting proportion, drawing the eye to the character? Then, I start sketching and I do some research to ensure no one else has already created a character anything like mine and I adjust my design if needed. My design always takes off from there as I experiment and refine my work. For some characters, I like to combine animals or species to make something totally different. I ask myself questions like: What would a plant, an elephant and a spider make? Puzzles like this are what inspire my art.
What makes me different from other character designers and modelers is that I view myself as a creator of characters that do not exist now but could exist within a whole new world. When I am designing a character or even just imagining how it would look in the real world or in its own new world, I give it a back story. I map out its life entirely. What is its favorite food? What is its main purpose? Why does it do what it does? Asking myself these kinds of questions allow me to create characters that capture the attention of the audience regardless of what media my characters are applied to: a game, a movie, a short or other media form. I want my characters to be versatile and multi-functional if possible. My overall concept and creative process depends on the task but what is important to me is that my characters are relatable to those who will view them and that my characters seem lifelike.
